Dental Cleanings

Dental CleaningsIt’s not enough that you brush and floss your teeth at home to maintain your oral health. To truly take care of your teeth, you need to visit your dentist at least twice a year. Aside from receiving a thorough checkup, you will also receive dental cleanings to really keep your teeth in excellent shape and function.

The technical term for a dental cleaning is “oral prophylaxis”. Whatever you may want to call it, it involves thoroughly cleaning your teeth, as well as your gums and the rest of the mouth. The main goal of such a cleaning is to eliminate the build of tartar and plaque that regular toothbrushing can’t prevent. This is especially true for the areas in your mouth that you find hard to reach with your toothbrush. It’s important that you receive this type of professional cleaning at least twice a year.

What to Expect

For most people, a dental cleaning is nothing to be afraid of. It’s completely painless. However, a few people may feel some level of anxiety. They may experience some type of jaw discomfort while keeping their mouth open, and they may not find it pleasant to feel all that prodding inside their mouth as the dental tools make intimidating sounds. Still, we do our very best to alleviate your anxiety so you don’t find the process unduly uncomfortable.

For the most part, it doesn’t take all that long either. It’s easy enough to schedule a dental cleaning even in the middle of a busy workweek.

If you haven’t had your teeth professionally cleaned for some time, it’s best if you get in touch with us so we can schedule an appointment.
